Marcon Borg Caruana brings experience and a proven track record in project management with roles in the creative and cultural industries. As a dedicated scholar specializing in arts and cultural management, her work centers on the intersection of technology and cultural engagement. She holds a Master's degree in Arts and Cultural Management from Leuphana University in Germany and a Bachelor’s degree in European Studies from the University of Malta.
Under the guidance of supervisors Dr. Patrick Föhl and Dr. Sandro Debono, Marcon's research is deeply influenced by contemporary theoretical frameworks. This includes Föhl's concept of cultural managers as 'Masters of Interspaces' and Debono's innovative approach to phygital thinking.
Her previous roles include developing cultural programmes for Local and Regional Councils, managing the Yearly Film and Book Festival for the German Maltese Circle with a focus on stakeholder engagement and data-driven improvements, and optimizing procurement processes for Festivals Malta.
Marcon's community-based research and strategic planning for events at the Valletta 2018 Foundation underscore her skill in tailoring projects to local interests, achieving high community engagement, and contributing significantly to Valletta's legacy as the European Capital of Culture.
Marcon is also the founder of a unique artisanal brand, Atelier Nineteen Wearable Art, which creates jewellery by recycling antique watch parts and home decor using crystals. In 2020, the brand was runner-up for the most innovative product using precious materials through the Malta Crafts Council.
